The idea of creating music that’s a truly vicious listening experience is a concept that has existed for quite some time and has taken many forms. For us metal fans, we see that in brilliant arrays from the likes of Godflesh, Jesu, Drug Honkey, P.H.O.B.O.S., etc., and all of those and more have spawned a truly unique landscape that’s has hostile and unforgiving as the Antarctic in the dead of winter. It’s acts like 0N0 that have inhabited this hellscape for years and have continued to eke out a repetore at the same time, and it’s with their seventh effort that 0N0 continues to power on in madness and chaos.
Everytime that I go into an album like this, I always wipe my expectations clear because if you listen to even one release of this style you know that quite literally everything is fucking possible. No two releases are the same and even more rarely are their tracks that sound alike in any way. 0N0 offers more of a taste and a preview than a full-on experience with “Cloaked Climax Concealed” as this EP just barely clocks over 11 minutes in total and is but a precursor to an eventual full-length in the works, but in no way does that subvert the sheer magnitude of what 0N0 brings to the table here with just two tracks. We’re given an absolute tour de force of the style here with the industrial factors of the style being tuned down just slightly with the death and doom elements taking more of the spotlight, but they mixed incredibly well to create a bombastic listen that’s filled with peaks and valleys while constantly at peak energy as “Cloaked Climax Concealed” does nothing but devastate across its short but effective runtime. Extremely few acts can accomplish that with just two tracks, but with 0N0 that we see it executed with utmost mastery.
Being able to make an impression of this kind is an immensely difficult task to accomplish on any level, but it’s with 0N0 that we see it done on a masterful level to where I simply can’t wait to hear the upcoming release even more! In every form, “Cloaked Climax Concealed” is an aggressive listen that’s not for the light-hearted, and should you survive this brief but excruciating experience, you’ll be left only wanting more.
