In no small way, the underground is constantly pulsating with new talent the likes of which are always clamoring to put forth earth-shattering intensity of their own kind. Death metal, in particular, is always finding itself in a scenario where new bands are always coming out of the woodwork to show us what they’re made of be it with some new take on a long-accomplished sound, perpetuate the glory of what has already been perfected, or to try some new devilry of their own. Such debuts litter the underground with new offerings always coming around, and keeping up with them all is certainly a herculean task by all accounts. With their own debut, though, Saevus Finis poises itself as a name to really take significant ground with its first foray being one of surprising potency.
We’re all familiar with loads upon loads of bands that deal in uncompromising power to bring their music to life in such a form that is irrefutably aggressive and homicidal for those of us that find ourselves in its presence be it unintentionally or through active searching. Regardless of how you find yourself before Saevus Finis, the eviscerations and hauntings of “Facilis Descensus Averno” are sure to leave an impact on your psyche whose effects are not likely to wane any time soon. With a truly foreboding presence alongside the deadly use of suffocation as their main weapon for unbridled death on a global scale, this is a debut the likes of which many of us can only ever hope to stumble upon with the understanding of the task at hand already taken incredibly seriously by Saevus Finis at every turn as it’s throughout all of these ten unyielding lectures in pain that we see what the Portuguese act is already capable of. Nothing is left to chance or on the table as Saevus Finis constantly shows us how to deliver ultimate destruction no matter the cost and, especially, no matter who gets in the way.
“Facilis Descensus Averno” is a truly voracious creation that seeks to create atrocities of its own the likes of which many strive to achieve on their debut effort with few able to understand the assignment to the degree like what we’ve seen here from Saevus Finis which only further shows us just how far ahead of the torturous game this act already finds itself in. This is but the beginning for what is sure to become a renowned pillar of all-consuming destruction in the Portuguese scene that is already brimming with more than enough talent, and it’s only gotten better with the arrival of Saevus Finis.
