Dyssebeia – Garden of Stillborn Idols

Without so much as a doubt in my mind, I know for a fact we’re living in a golden age for all things innovative in the world of metal. Even if it’s an incredibly simple push forward into the progressive worl or a mere shift in an unexpected direction, there’s far more than enough craziness out there for all of us to sink our teeth into. It’s to the point where it can be difficult to keep up-to-date on new names coming around given that there’s a staggering level of quality to go around even with the sprouting fledgling acts constantly coming out of the woodwork. As if to answer that very call, Dyssebeia could have done anything with their debut as they cast their name into the ocean of others to show us what they’re made of. Much like a large swathe of the competition, Dyssebeia already shows itself off to be a name that is quite a surprise!

Much like many death metal acts who have taken the progressive route in recent years, this is not as heavy as what one would come to expect from the sound, yet in no form is this death metal of a sort that is content at being pinned down in one place to lament what could have been. Rather, Dyssebeia makes it a mission to make “Garden of Stillborn Idols” a ferociously dynamic listen as well as an immensely satisfying one to boot. Constantly shifting to always keep the listener guessing while never once missing out on opportunities for gorgeous displays of heaviness or melodic expanses, Dyssebeia has defied to the odds to make their debut something that is a true delight for the senses right from the beginning. It pulls from much of what has come before be it from the likes of Be’lakor, In Mourning, or literally any other band of this kind that may spring to mind with the vocals as diverse as they are unapologetically eviscerating no matter the scenario. The instruments always make for grand visages that this particular vein of death metal has always excelled at with “Garden of Stillborn Idols” refusing to miss such a chance to show us just how capable they are of that very excellence without shame or compromise with the final result effortlessly being a creation that is fantastically dazzling, undeniably flavorful, and an absolute joy to fall into.

We’ve seen plenty of eye-opening debuts from tons of bands across the progressive reaches of death metal, and it should go without saying that Dyssebeia has certainly brought that very kind of listen to the table. Not just a work that shows promise with a handful of songs delivering, “Garden of Stillborn Idols” is a constant ride of consistent talent that holds nothing back in the slightest as Dyssebeia shows us what they’re made of out of the very gate with their future brighter than the very sun.
