Growth is something that we’re able to bear witness to many times over throughout the vast underground with it being every given style that has quite a long list of acts that know how to always keep us in suspense for one reason or another. By all accounts, anything related to psychedelic rock is more than subject to that simple truth. Where we’ve seen many come and go to really show us what the style is still capable of, the instrumental reaches still know how to keep us guessing at every turn. It was just a few years ago that Atomic Vulture came around to remind us of that fact, and it’s again with their latest work that they’ve shown us precisely why they’re a name we needed to keep a close eye on.
Literally speaking, it should almost go without saying that Atomic Vulture has checked off all the necessary boxes of instrumental psych splendor given what they accomplished with their 2021 album, “Moving Through Silence”, with the prospect of a follow-up promising undeniable growth abound enough to really get the mouth watering out of pure excitement. With all that was brought to the table for “Pilgrims of the Sun”, it goes without saying that these Belgian cosmonauts have ascertained new heights that are simply fascinating to bear witness to. Damn near every given aspect of what has always made this particular corner of rock music something that has always been vastly engaging from beginning to end. With its riffs, atmospheres, and undeniably high levels of intoxication that always keep the energies intensely high to ensure that you’re always rooted in place, “Pilgrims of the Sun” tap into the very core of what has always been pillar themes and concepts of what the sound has been from day one. Atomic Vulture hits every single one of them with undeniable mastery and loads of prowess to make this not just another magnificent entry in a year that has been nothing but a constant string of overwhelming victories for all things in psychedelia, but a clear high mark in the band’s ongoing career.
Each track and a spectacular blend of flavors that is nigh-on intoxicating time after time with the very whole of the record something that’s not simple to put down and walk away from. It’s a constantly swirling kaleidoscope that has tons of personality and intensity that is just fascinating to bear witness to, my words can only go so far to accurately describe of what it’s like listening to “Pilgrims of the Sun”. Where there was talent and capability assured when it came to new material from Atomic Vulture, “Pilgrims of the Sun” sees undeniable mastery and high craftsmanship come into the fold at every turn.
