Increasingly in recent times have we seen the rise of death metal set in a cosmic environment, and it’s certainly something that we could always use more of! The infinite expanse in between the stars has always had potential for anything in the world of metal should a band simply have the imagination and the drive to really go for it. We’ve seen plenty of acts try their hand at it over the years with some coming and going from the theme like with what Intolerance seems to have gone for with their forthcoming sophomore album. Whether they stay in space or not, it’s clear that Intolerance is more than capable of carnage on an interstellar scale.
Fast on the heels of their exemplary first album just two years ago, it’s clear that Intolerance is not the sort of act to sit around for long. Much like the brand of death metal that they perpetuate, this is an act that’s constantly seething and writhing with hatred and power unbound of a specific ilk that can only be found in the dense underground with everything that’s been brought forth within “Waking Nightmares of an Endless Void” proving that time after time. This is death metal that holds nothing back. Where many would find time to add a sense of contrast or scale to their madness, what Intolerance puts forth here cannot be seen as anything less than driven even in its smallest moments as riffs, torture, and pulverization are the goals of this exceedingly gruesome game with no one a true victor should they make it to the other side of such a gruesome effort. More than capable of slowing things down such that the knife scores the bone with surgical precision and masochistic intent, “Waking Nightmares of an Endless Void” propels the listener into the black expanse of the cosmos to be put before a beast that can only be considered Lovecraftian in nature as its tentacles spread out across the fabrics of time and space with Intolerance its herald before a horrific death ensues from one planet to the next.
Indomitable and utterly ferocious in every given moment, Intolerance conquers with crushing menace throughout the whole record. Death metal of a variety that is nigh on infectious with all the tenacity, power, and immensity that one could ask for in the unending endlessness of space as the cries of the consumed ring throughout, “Waking Nightmare of an Endless Void” is a work that is sure to propel Intolerance’s presence into realms only seen far beyond the event horizon.
