A band shifting their sound even a little bit can make for a wild difference depending on whose hands are doing the crafting. The right hands can accomplish many things, and there are certainly loads of them spread throughout the entirety of what the metal underground has to offer with Sepulchral Curse being a name that should be more than familiar to those who have been paying attention in the last few years. Starting out with a sound that brought together the worlds of black and death metal, time has seen them adopt the latter for the forefront of their sound to really drive home what a powerful entity Sepulchral Curse has become. Their last album was nothing to deny in any form, but it’s this new issue of uncompromising darkness from realms beyond that we see that evolution reaching its best embodiment yet.
You could make the argument that Sepulchral Curse has always been more centered around death metal than anything else, but it is here within the seven tracks of their second full-length album, “Abhorrent Dimensions”, that there is no question what sound is front and center for the absolute whole of the effort. As such, every given minute of this mammoth performance is quite a daunting thing to look upon by all accounts down to the very colors on the cover art itself giving you a feel for the kind of sadistic journey through a hostile realm that you will embark one once you take the plunge. The moment you do, you are at the complete mercy of Sepulchral Curse who doesn’t hold back so much as a shred of their being to ensure that every fiber of their spirits are on the table to ensure “Abhorrent Dimensions” isn’t just another potent work of death metal with some nice flair here and there. Rather, “Abhorrent Dimensions” seeks the very light of your soul. Nuanced with great intricacies that show off the more terrifying aspects of Sepulchral Curse’s sound that always manages to sneak more into each track be it some gripping melodies, horrific backdrops, captivating solos, or excursions into supreme darkness that cannot be understated when it comes to the depths of their depravity.
Bring it all together for one massive effort, it should go without saying that Sepulchral Curse has accomplished much on their sophomore full-length with it effortlessly being their most complete work yet. Massive in virtually every regard, “Abhorrent Dimensions” stands tall amongst the competition with the band’s reputation only being furthered into the darkness beyond our comprehension with every step that was taking to bring the work to life, and its impact will not easily be shaken by any who find themselves before the utterly massive effort.
