Monument of Misanthropy – Vile Postmortem Irrumatio

The gruesome and the terrible have long had a central role in the vast majority of what death metal has always brought to the table, and it goes without saying that we’ve seen hundreds of thousands of different interpretations of that simple truth. It’s the sort of thing that anybody can wield with relative competency given the universal nature of it all, but to become real masters with the menacing power that comes with it is to become a real vessel of what death metal can be in the right hands. For some time now, Monument of Misanthropy has embodied those very ideals with their breed of brutal death metal a sight to behold from top to bottom. Now, with its third effort, the depraved act looks to a supremely depraved man to make for an album that’s as hideous in spirit as it is pummeling in its execution.

When we’re dealing with an act like Monument of Misanthropy, intensity is a guarantee given the reputation that the band has made for itself over the years with the concept of a theme something that changes from one album to the next to suit whatever brand of extremity the act is going for. While it was with their previous record, “Unterweger”, that we saw a collection of many themes that come across the spectrum of brutal death metal, it’s with “Vile Postmortem Irrumatio” that we see the scope narrowed quite significantly. Tackling the horrific and murderous acts of the BTK killer, these eleven tracks take on a terrifying sense of grounded reality that immediately sets the performance of Monument of Misanthropy apart from plenty of others with their esoteric and otherworldly sense of brutality. Every given inch of “Vile Postmortem Irrumatio” is a deeply unnerving experience that combined with the riff-landen and unrelenting brutal death metal that Monument of Misanthropy has become all but known for at this point, it’s no wonder that the name has risen through the ranks of the genre so quickly. Utterly eviscerating around every turn, the very songwriting, approach, thematic choices, and firsthand account of truly harrowing acts all come together in stupendous fashion to make for an album that delivers on each of its premises and promises right from the get-go. Nothing is left on the table but splattered flesh and crushed bone.

Where plenty have sought to deliver brutal death metal the likes of which really leaves an impact on the listener, there’s an undeniable sense of terror that permeates each track that Monument of Misanthropy puts forth in a creation that is otherwise an already immense creation of the sound. Much of what went into “Vile Postmortem Irrumatio” cannot be seen as anything less than real magnificence in the realms of brutal death metal, and I know damn well that Monument of Misanthropy still has more than enough horrors to unveil as time gruesomely moves forward.
