It goes without saying that the worlds of sludge and doom metal have long been intertwined given their heavy properties easily work off of each other when taken the right approach, but it can be too often that bands in question maximize their potential with such a sound. Such unbridled ferocity and heaviness can easily be lost if it’s found in the hands of those who don’t know how to temper or direct that kind of power into a form that can be considered meaningful, potent, or anything of the sort. Having been a force to reckon with for years now, Morbid Evils is no stranger to tackling the sound with great aptitude, but it has to be their newest effort that proves to be their most impactful yet.
Already, the concoction of sludge and doom in something that is not to be trifled with or ignored in any capacity with many of the heaviest creations to have ever been brought into existence coming from such a union, and it’s been over the years that Morbid Evils has never been strangers to that idea, but it’s with their injection of death metal in the mix that has always made them stand out where many others might become stale. Just that small factor of change allows this band to really show us what they’re made of as they make it clear right from the beginning that they are far from one-trick ponies with everything that they’ve brought to the table for “Supernaturals” the only proof one could ever need for such a statement. Right from the beginning, it becomes evident to any listener that Morbid Evils is not holding back for their third full-length offering as we see the band tackle themes of sorrow and torment while never once allowing the core ideals of the style to weigh down their personality or flavors, really enabling “Supernaturals” to not only become the band’s more impactful performance to date but also the one that definitely feels the truest to what the band has always been leading towards. Morbid Evils has never been a band to underestimate. They’ve always been one to investigate and lose yourself in as their power is simply all-engrossing, but it is certifiably with the four tracks and 40 minutes that are presented to us here that we’re really to bear witness to the unforgiving power that this band has always been capable of with this effortlessly being their most monolithic, direct, and tempered creation to date.
The world of heaviness when we’re dealing with music like this is always bountiful with acts that manage to impress with immense levels of heaviness that are more than likely to scratch the itch of many seekers of intensity, but it is definitely with all that was brought forth for this release that Morbid Evils has made an album that is truly not one to be missed. An absolute beast in every way from its foreboding presence to varying riffs that pull you further into the whirlwind that spares no one in sight, “Supernaturals” is an album that many of us have been waiting for.
