MRTVI – Omniscient Hallucinatory Delusion

The unexplainable realm of experimental black metal is just as wondrous as it is uninviting, capricious, awe-inspiring, and chaotic, and it’s something that I’ve rarely gotten enough of just because of how eclectic it is in every possible way with no release being anywhere near the same as the last. MRTVI was a name that I heard years ago with their crazy sound on the last record that the one-man act released, and I wouldn’t be lying if I said that my expectations were high with this new effort. Without exception, this 12-track work does not hold back.

What’s important to know about this work is how much it shifts from one style to the next seamlessly all while keeping you guessing as to just what the hell is going to follow next for MRTVI never settles for long. Bringing together all sorts of sounds from the world of ambient and noise with a very strong core of black metal, “Omniscient Hallucinatory Delusion” is something that really feels made for listeners that want to be thrown into a void like very few others. Overflowing with utter madness as MRTVI is always dripping whispers of rot and decay through the darkening stars whose demises each song slowly revolves around, there’s very little that’s welcoming about this work that anyone who isn’t prepared for immense chaos won’t be able to take easily. “Omniscient Hallucinatory Delusion” takes its twelve tracks and divides them all into a four-part journey that trudges the listener through various realms of untold suffering, and MRTVI narrates them all with terrifying tenacity and voraciousness that does nothing but continue to devour everything in its path that’s put in front of it with there being no exception whatsoever in any moment of this soul-consuming creation. It’s a work that instantly leaves its mark on the listener to where you’re either beyond terrified and run away or become greatly hypnotized and fall further into the breathing darkness that MRTVI executes with deadly purpose whose fury does not persist even for the very ending of the universe of which it heralds in absolute earnest.

There aren’t very many acts out there that can provide something like this even if this specific sort of blend of noise and black metal becomes more widespread by the year, and if there was to be any single piece that shows MRTVI is in the upper echelon of those acts then this is undoubtedly it. Every single moment of this work is caustic to the maximum that experimental black metal can ever be, and I can’t help but feel that “Omniscient Hallucinatory Delusion” is one of the best of its kind that I’ve heard in far too long.
