Anything that dares to say it dwells in the realm of post-metal for even a little bit needs to understand what it means to have an excellent atmosphere that permeates just about every possible moment of what the album creates as soon as the listener hits the play button. It’s what the style is really made for as it’s a cardinal rule that should not be ignored nor underestimated, especially when there’s doom also in the mix to make things really interesting. Adliga clearly understands what they’re doing when they went to go create this work as it’s everything that a combination of doom and post-metal should be.
Just looking at that cover art should give you an idea into the incredibly immersive work that Adliga has crafted for us here even though it’s simple given how deep it is in every sense that really requires attention to realize just how thorough “Kali Paćjače Njeba” is at excavating your very soul. Very much like those roots, there isn’t a single part of these songs that don’t slowly coil their way around you to drag you further into the world that Adliga pain-stakingly crafted for us to just drown ourselves in as their brand of doom is that which crushes on two fronts: literally and emotionally. While not as potent as plenty of what the death/doom world is, “Kali Paćjače Njeba” focuses on provided a very cerebral and cloudy experience that’s meant to be wrapped in mystery but expressed with real passion, and you can hear that in every moment that Adliga marches on for! This is a far cry from any sort of material that I would recommend listening to as any sort of background noise because this kind of material is the kind breed of excellence that demands to be eaten up meticulously as Adliga constantly gives us an absolute feast of several flavors that all come together spectacularly such that it isn’t hard to call “Kali Paćjače Njeba” one of the premiere albums of its kind that we’ve gotten this year. It just keeps on giving in every possible department, and Adliga knows not how to disappoint.
Such works like this are not common whatsoever as doom and post-metal don’t often find a home together where they gel as well as they do here, but it’s Adliga that shows us in every single track why it’s such prime real estate for many magnificent works to sprout forth from. “Kali Paćjače Njeba” is surely just the beginning for this band, and I truly can’t wait to see what else they’re capable of.
