Ornamentos del Miedo – Este No Es Tu Hogar

Being poignant with your lyrics is something that everyone has been exposed to at least several hundred times throughout their life, and that content making an impact on the surrounding music is far from uncommon, but I firmly believe that there isn’t a greater style that takes it to as fantastic heights the likes of which funeral doom produces on a regular basis. It’s in the case of “Este No Es Tu Hogar” I was presented with another monolithic piece that could continue the trend of excellence for funeral doom for me, and Ornamentos del Miedo didn’t disappoint in the slightest.

More often than not, it’s in the realm of funeral doom that a permanent fog rests on all that the material touches and figures drift through that mist with no destination as they’re simply ambling away from reality and its harsh truths. Every record of the style brings a slightly new take on what’s in the fog, what the figures are marching away from, or even how dense that fog is and it’s with “Este No Es Tu Hogar” that Ornamentos del Miedo deals us a record that is simply exquisite in every single one of those attributes to make this a record that’s not only heavy but soul-piercing. I haven’t seen an offering of this kind since Illimitable Dolor earlier this year, and it’s even then that Ornamentos del Miedo brings forth that classic funeral doom element of a lengthy track the table in greater quantities as these six tracks allow “Este No Es Tu Hogar” to just peak over an hour long with crushing magnificence adorning every moment. There’s so much of everything that a fan could expect out of a funeral doom piece put carefully into this record, and it’s somehow on his very first effort that the single man behind this act has already started at an exceeding marvelous point. It’s not often at all we see a one-man funeral doom band, but it’s thanks to the sheer presence and quality of “Este No Es Tu Hogar” that we see how it could very well be done in high quality.

Ornamentos del Miedo very much deserves praise for bringing a solid helping of what Spain can bring to the table for funeral doom as it’s a creation that’s already rich in quality but also immensely ripe for improving upon as the man behind this gets a better grip on how to create more elaborate works. Whenever they come out, I’ll happily dive back into the gloom that this man has crafted if it means that we will get something even close to the glory of “Este No Es Tu Hogar”.
