Progenie Terrestre Pura – oltreLuna

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to explore the great vast beyond our tiny blue orb? Metal hasn’t really been a respectable vessel when it comes to wandering the last frontier, but few bands such as Mesarthim have come out of the woodwork to seek through the expanse of space. Until recently, I’ve never once heard of the Italian group known as Progenie Terrestre Pura, but after hearing their newest record I can easily say this is an expedition whose crew know exactly how to please.

In order to encapture the wonder and splendor that is outer space, you’re going to need much more than just a simple fucking combination of a guitar, bass, and a set of drums thrown together like any other bands out there. Progenie Terrestre Pura clearly understood this as with their second full-length album, “oltreLuna”, they added different instruments combined with electronic sampling, phenomenally executed rhythms, and a titanic set of vocals that all come together to add this amazing sense of grandeur that really makes you feel like you’re in the center of a sprawling cosmic epic like none other. But it’s not just the aesthetic or theme that’s nailed with “oltreLuna” – no, these Italians managed to craft a piece of music that by all means is an excellent piece in so many different ways from being a stellar metal record to being an immensely dynamic example of music taken to extraordinary heights. And as the album progresses, each track gets longer as we start with an epic eight-minute opener only to close out our expedition with a 15-minute to make “oltreLuna” an expanse only a handful of other groups have managed to capture over the decades, yet it is Progenie Terrestre Pura that has taken the sense of splendor and grandeur of sci-fi/space themes to a place that is no less than a piece of art in motion.

We simply don’t get albums like this that not only transcend boundaries of music genres as well as accurately portray a beloved vision that’s been morphed through thousands of different iterations, yet Progenie Terrestre Pura managed to create one of the most intriguing pieces across all of sci-fi that I’ve had the pleasure of experiencing. “oltreLuna” is an amazingly immersive and beautiful experience the likes of which only this band can pull off, and once you step foot into this grand universe that these Italians have crafted like gods then you will not want to leave for a second.
