The fact that the genre of pure heavy metal that hearkens back to some of the original days of metal itself is such a great thing, and it’s even better to see how smaller bands from all around the world are keeping that passion for heavy metal alive and well. Hell Gun come out of Brazil to bring us their debut EP, “Southern Hell”, which isn’t the best heavy metal I’ve heard before but it is definitely a strong EP with a very nice sound overall. Five tracks isn’t much, but when two of those are well over 5 minutes long that kind of makes up for that and it does even more when they are both done very, very well which is great because that shows Hell Gun can pull off both long songs and shorter ones which is something that not all bands are able to do, especially on their debut but Hell Gun are not just the average band clearly. This whole EP also sounds like it was made in one of the member’s garage or basement which is great because that shows that Hell Gun are starting from the truly bottom and have been able to make something really cool out of it with that “something” being “Southern Hell”. And as I said this isn’t the best heavy metal I’ve heard, but Hell Gun definitely show that in given time they will be a force to be reckoned with when it comes to the growing metal scene in Brazil today. I’m sure that they can make an underground hit that only a few will have the luck of hearing, and I hope to be one of them.
