Scolopendra Cingulata – Kuoltuu Kaikin Kohetah

a2609484819_10 The quality and abundance of raw black metal that actually sounds good as truly gone down in recent years, but as with most everything and all forms of music there are always a good few bands that continue the legacy of their taste. Scolopendra Cingulata (scientific name for the Mediterranean banded centipede) has recently released their EP “Kuoltuu Kaikin Kohetah”, and is easily one of the most interesting, raw, and pure black metal album that I’ve heard from a band that does not add any other sort of elements like atmospheric bits or incorporating any other genre like death metal. All 4 tracks have an excellent showcase of vocals that do not hold back, guitars that are fast that don’t let up, and drums that have a fantastic beat for the entirety of the album. There are parts though that everything gets slowed down and it’s filled with filler noise with the sound of swords clashing being but one example. The pace is slowed with those parts, of course, but they build up to the intensity that was showcased before. Now I will say that “Kuoltuu Kaikin Kohetah” is not perfect in several ways, but it’s very close and shows that Scolopendra Cingulata have got the gears turning in their heads and that has got me very intrigued. This album is very much true black metal, and should be checked out if you’re a fan of that. And as for any future albums from these guys, you can be sure I’ll keep my eyes peeled as you should too.
