Five Finger Death Punch – Jekyll and Hyde (single)

fivefingerjekyllsinglecover I’m going to take a leap of faith and say that we all have heard of Five Finger Death Punch in one way or another. Whether you’ve seen them in metal news, listened to them before and liked it (me), or heard it and then hated it “because they fucked everything up” (my father after hearing their cover of “Bad Company”). Their five albums have absolutely dominated the scene and further increased both the very loyal fan base and the group of haters, and those numbers will continue to increase now that 5FDP have released the single off of their upcoming sixth release, “Got Your Six”. This single, “Jekyll and Hyde”, had me on edge at first because I remember seeing their guitarist Zoltan saying how this was inspired by voice mails off of the vocalist’s phone which is . . . unconventional to say in the least. But I was willing to give it a spin and I do not regret it one bit. The song only runs just under 3 1/2 minutes but it’s jam packed with that signature 5FDP sound and feel that everyone knows and may not love but they fucking know it. From the solo to the theme of the lyrics to the tone of the lyrics themselves, “Jekyll and Hyde” packs an absolute punch that only shows that 5FDP are back again to smash faces and leave no stone unturned when they drop “Got Your Six” on August 28th. This song is calmer in some bits, but the chorus still brings out the actual “death punch” of their name and the feel of it alone will make fans jump for joy and happy that their band has not lost their touch. They still sound badass and they’re sure to make their sixth killing when the album releases and fans everywhere will see what 5FDP has in store for us, and surely it will be magnificent.
