The essence of the sound of black metal is purely raw and unrestrained, as we all should know I assume. Back in the 90’s this was something else entirely with bands coming with all sorts of different types of shit to make their black metal sound more raw and more unrestrained than what bands before them had already done a thousand times over and over again. Nowadays, some bands are returning back to those times with coming up with albums that while sounding raw on record they sound just as if not more so raw when played live. One such band is the French group of Ende who’s 2008 demo “The God’s Rejects” is finally available, and let me tell you that it’s a beast to say in the least (rhyme not intended). “The God’s Rejects” employs elements taken from both death and black metal while also added atmospheric effects to bring a sense of mysticism to the mix that works very, very well because it made the album seem more than what it would’ve been if it were just guitars, vocals, and drums. The fact that this is a demo and that every single track off of it was fucking awesome shows some talent that Ende has because it’s hard to make a song sound raw and awesome at the same time without any sort of tuning, amplifications, or turning up or down any instruments and emphasizing others. The vocals weren’t the intense screeching that black metal is known for, instead it’s much more composed while still retaining that very raw element to go along with the brutal guitars and the pulse of the drums which was absolutely transcending and hypnotic to say in the least. “The God’s Rejects” is without a fucking doubt an album that you cannot miss if you’re big into black metal because Ende has got just the album for you that will make you wish that they had more albums out so you can sit there and shit your pants after you shit your pants listening to “The God’s Rejects”.
